Ethnobotanical study of Makra Hills district Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan

Background: It is the first ethno-botanical study to preserve ethno-flora of Makkra hills along with their different uses document indigenous knowledge. This enumerated and highlighted significance plants for used categories by local people in unexplored biodiversity rich region AJ&K, Pakistan. Methods: A questionnaire method was adopted conduct an ethno-medicinal study. Questionnaire were filled researcher during interviewing native languages data analyzed quantitative indices such as Relative Frequency Citation (RFC), Use Value (UV), Importance (RI). Results: Our findings revealed 68 plant species belonging 64 genera 36 families inhabitants various purposes. Angiosperms leading number contribution 62 ethnoflora area. Herbaceous flora contributed 75% Leading Poacceae, Compositae Polygonaceae. Classification based on use most category medicinal 57 followed food 26 19 miscellaneous uses. Among parts usage leaves representation species. Three matrices calculate important ethnobotanical area versatility Based index Citation, Juglans regia showed higher values 2.62 0.84 respectively. Berberis lycium versatile having a value 1.80. Conclusions: We conclude that are still harbouring good knowledge due dependences flora. Conservation practices providence basic facilities will be helpful retain recover vegetation its original position.
